“He looked exhausted.”

Most great bachelor parties involve an element of surprise. But recently, a bachelor party canoeing on the Minnesota River got the shock of a lifetime when they spotted a huge, furry head poking out from the muddy shoreline.
“We had been on the river for … a full day and night, and hadn’t seen anyone else,” bachelor-in-question Mitch White wrote in a Facebook post. “ My [n]ephew … heard a dog barking behind him and turned the canoe around to see what was going on …”
The head belonged to a senior St. Bernard who’d been wandering the area and somehow gotten hopelessly stuck.
“When we got to shore, [we saw he] was buried up to his neck in the thickest of mud,” White wrote.

The men began using their oars as shovels, trying to dig the poor pup out of the mud. In need of some help, they called 911. Soon, firefighters from the Carver Fire Department were on the way.
In the meantime, the men did everything they could to keep the dog comfortable.
“We gave him water, [and] he drank about a half a gallon before stopping,” White wrote in the post. “[We] gave him some of our lunch meat and summer sausage we had been lunching on just before we found him.”
By the time fire department captain Shaun Cox arrived at the scene, the men had been digging for about 20 minutes.
“When I first saw the dog up to his back in the mud, I felt pretty bad for him, as he looked exhausted,” Cox told The Dodo.
Firefighters and bachelor party members were initially anxious that the dog, whom they later learned was named Ed, wouldn’t react kindly to their help. However, the group was pleased to find Ed to be very friendly and cooperative. Soon, the big guy was free from the riverbank, relaxing in a truck bed.

Ed’s owner was so happy to reunite with his pup, who, according to CBS News, had roamed off the family’s property and was missing for a day before rescuers found him.
Cox was similarly thrilled that this unique rescue had come to such a joyful conclusion and that Ed would finally be home safe.
“I was happy to see them reunited,” Cox said. “[Ed] looked a lot better the next day, after having had a bath.”

Naked Dog Left Shivering Alone In The Forest Is So Fluffy And Happy Now
“[Her] sad eyes completely transformed.”
Sabine Kaufmann of animal rescue Little Steps Matter was out walking some shelter dogs in a remote Bali forest when she came across someone in dire need of her help.

Cowering in the mud was a tiny dog. She was almost completely hairless and could hardly move because of her bent spine. Terrified and freezing cold, the pup’s entire body was shaking.
“She was incredibly sick and unable to walk,” Kaufmann told The Dodo.

It took a bit of coaxing, but after a little while, Kaufmann was able to scoop up the injured pup and take her to get the medical care she urgently needed.
The dog’s situation was dire. Still, her rescuers never gave up. In honor of the faith they had in the dog, they named her Hope.
At the vet, they determined that Hope was 4 years old and that she had a crooked back and a hernia. She underwent intensive treatment, which included a major surgery and a week at the hospital.

Her caring veterinary team worked tirelessly to get her feeling better. Once she was starting to heal, Hope’s foster mama, Krista, welcomed her with open arms.
“At first, she was very scared and overwhelmed,” Kaufmann said.
Hope was so shy and traumatized that she would try to hide behind her own legs. But Krista just took it one day at a time. She hand-fed Hope, gave her gentle baths and held her in her arms.

Little by little, Hope’s fur began to grow back. And little by little, she started coming out of her shell.

“After experiencing this human kindness for the first time in her life, Hope’s sad eyes completely transformed,” Kaufmann said.
After four months of being cared for by her foster mama, Hope was unrecognizable. She had a full coat of golden fur and a bubbly personality. It was almost like she’d turned back into a puppy.

You can watch her full transformation here:
“It was the most beautiful thing to see her wagging her tail, playing, giving kisses and just loving life,” Kaufmann said.

Hope’s last step on her journey was to move in with her permanent family. Now, she has a new mama and a brother named Tofu. They like to play together and keep each other company on long walks.

In the span of just a few months, both Hope and her life have become unimaginably transformed.
