“I was a bit surprised …”

When Alice Ensor, an adoption counselor at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, first received an adoption application from a woman named Johanna, she thought it was pretty standard — until she noticed the woman’s age. Johanna was applying to adopt a dog at the incredible age of 100.
“When I first received Johanna’s adoption questionnaire, I was a bit surprised,” Ensor told The Dodo. “100 years old is definitely a milestone in and of itself. We don’t often have a centenarian looking to bring home a new mutt. I knew that Johanna had to be a very special dog lover to be looking for her new furry friend ahead of her 101st birthday.”
While some people might be concerned about someone of Johanna’s age adopting a new dog, Ensor wasn’t. The application went into great detail about Johanna’s situation, and she had a strong support system, including a caretaker and her daughter, Debbie, to help her look after her new friend. She was a great candidate to adopt one of Muttville’s own senior residents — the question was, which dog should it be?
“Muttville’s adoptions manager, Kristin Hoff, was actually the person who realized that Gnocchi might be a great fit, and it was all pretty easy from there,” Ensor said.
Gnocchi had been at the rescue for quite a while and wasn’t having an easy time finding a home. He’d been rescued from a home with 22 dogs and needed to be the only pup in his new home. No one had stepped up to adopt him, and he was losing hope. All he really wanted was a lap to curl up on during his golden years, and Johanna turned out to be the perfect person to give him that.
“We set up a virtual call where Johanna could see Gnocchi in a home setting, and it was love at first sight,” Ensor said. “We processed the adoption the next day, and Debbie helped pick up and bring Gnocchi to his new mom. Debbie let us know that Gnocchi walked into the house and jumped right into Johanna’s lap.”
It’s been a year since Gnocchi, now called Gucci, arrived in his new home, and things couldn’t be going better. Johanna is about to turn 102 and is still going strong, in large part thanks to her new best friend.
“It’s been an amazing year with Gucci,” Johanna told Muttville. “He brings me so much joy! I love it when he sits on my lap and keeps me company. Having Gucci in my life has given me someone to love and care for, and that makes a big difference at my age.”
Gucci and his mom have their daily routine down to a T. Every morning, the pair migrate from the bedroom to the living room and settle into their favorite recliner together. They watch the news and enjoy cuddling together until the afternoon, and Johanna’s caretaker handles Gucci’s daily walks.
“They are thick as thieves,” Johanna’s daughter, Debbie, told Muttville. “He is spoiled rotten! He’s a couch potato who was a perfect match for my mom!”
No one else seemed to be interested in Gucci, but that was OK. He was just waiting for his soulmate to find him, and that person turned out to be Johanna.

Woman Moves To Florida And Finds Thousands Of Tiny Intruders In New Home
“They’re everywhere. All over. In everything. And they just keep coming in the waves and masses.”

One of the things Lenora Ramsey and her family looked forward to most when moving into their new home earlier this month was meeting their new neighbors. However, they got more than they bargained for when they walked into their garage on one of their first nights home and discovered thousands of strangers already hanging out inside.
The hoard of tiny neighbors had entered the home unannounced, surprising Ramsey when she entered the garage and saw a thousand little dots jumping around.
“As you can see, we are currently undergoing what seems to be an infestation of sorts,” Ramsey said in a TikTok. “These are not crickets. These are not bugs. These are, in fact, frogs. Little, teeny, tiny frogs. And they’re everywhere.”

As Ramsey walked around the garage, she uncovered more and more froglets taking refuge in her home. She soon found a large group lining the bottom of the garage door and realized where they were all coming from.
“They’re everywhere. All over. In everything. And they just keep coming in the waves and masses,” Ramsey said.
Unable to control the influx of froglets, Ramsey set out a sheet pan filled with water for her visitors and left them alone. When she checked back an hour later, she was shocked to find they’d multiplied.
“This was not like this earlier today. I cleaned our garage today, and this was not like this,” Ramsey said in an update on TikTok. “This happened about an hour and a half ago, two hours ago.”
Albeit confused, Ramsey didn’t plan on evicting her visitors. Even if she wanted to, opening the garage door to let them out would inevitably allow more in. So she left them again for a while and was stunned by what she found when she returned an hour later.
“They’ve all gone to bed. That’s what I’m gonna call it. It’s really weird. I’ve never seen this before,” Ramsey said in a TikTok. “In the morning, we’re gonna open the garage and let all of them out, and they can go live their happy little [lives]. But for now, we’re just gonna close the door, and we’re gonna just let them go night-night … “
Ramsey turned off the lights and closed the door, allowing the froglets to sleep peacefully. The following morning, she checked on the froglets and found that most had already left. When she followed them outside, the line of well-rested froglets led her to a nearby pond.
“So, I guess I was just like, the overnight stop because most of them are gone,” Ramsey said on TikTok. “Anywho, it was a pleasure to be the frog motel hotel for overnight. Bye, little dudes. Well, stay as long as you’d like, I guess.”
The froglets returned that evening and again the following night. The frogs were seemingly drawn to the Ramsey home for its safety and comfort, but the presence of familiar friends may have also lured them. Weeks before moving in, the Ramseys rescued 15 tadpoles in the wake of Hurricane Milton, who peacefully slept inside while tiny frogs partied in the garage.
For the Ramsey family, being visited by an army of froglets while raising tadpoles was a happy twist of fate and an excellent teaching moment for their young daughter.
“I just think it’s so cool that I get to be a part of their journey, and my daughter has been able to see all of this and gotten to experience the life cycle,” Ramsey said in a TikTok.
The growing tadpoles will be ready to join their jumping neighbors outside in a few weeks. Until then, the ever-growing community of frogs outside continues to use the Ramsey home for shelter — and the animal-loving family couldn’t be happier about it.
“We’ve allowed the backyard to just continue to be a little froggy oasis,” Ramsey said in a TikTok update. “Getting to be a part of these little guys’ journey has been an absolute blessing.”
