She just wanted to be held.

A few weeks ago, Marty McAdams’ relaxing Saturday at home was interrupted by a confusing phone call from his neighbor. She told him to get his puppy out of her yard.
McAdams looked down at the floor, where his 80-pound golden retriever, Cammie, was lying.
“I said, ‘What are you talking about?’” McAdams told The Dodo. “So I go over, and here’s this little puppy.”

A tiny 4-week-old puppy sat inside a plastic bin with some dog supplies, staring up at McAdams and his neighbor. The terrified girl had an injured, swollen foot and clearly needed help.
After asking around on Facebook to see if anyone was missing the puppy, McAdams and several neighbors came to terms with the fact that someone must have dumped this sweet dog in the backyard.

“[It’s] a fenced backyard with a low gate to it,” McAdams said. “They just reached over and put her there, you know, and left her there.”
By dinnertime, the neighbors had secured a foster home for the puppy, now called Pebbles, through local rescue ThisIsHouston.
But since the foster couldn’t come until the next day, McAdams realized Pebbles would be spending the night with him and Cammie. He’s adopted eight dogs over the years and has experience with pups who’ve suffered some trauma. Cammie had arrived just three months ago, rescued after years in a puppy mill.
Pebbles, perhaps sensing she was in good hands, refused to leave McAdams’ side.

“I probably sat on the couch and held her for four hours, off and on,” McAdams said. “She just didn’t want to be left alone. She just cried and cried.”
Pebbles didn’t want to sleep alone, either. She cried in the makeshift bed McAdams set up for her with blankets. Finally, despite some protests from Cammie, Pebbles drifted off to sleep next to the golden retriever in her giant, plush dog bed.

The next morning, Pebbles seemed calmer and more curious. She explored McAdams’ yard, and Cammie let her snooze on the big bed again.
Then, Pebbles was off with her foster mom, a vet tech, where she’s since been able to play with another temporary sibling and start her healing process.
“Pebbles is doing great now!” ThisIsHouston told The Dodo. “We aren’t sure what happened to her paw, but with meds, the swelling has gone down, and we’re just waiting for hair to grow back.”

Pebbles, a little fighter who is slowly building confidence, is now 7 weeks old and ready to find a forever home where she never has to worry about being alone again.

Woman Arriving Home From Work Finds Someone Curled Up By Her Trash Can
She was trying to find a bed 🥺
The other day, a Texas resident named Arleth Martinez had just returned home after a day of work when she was confronted with a heartbreaking sight. In front of her house, she saw a puppy curled up by her trash can.
Martinez noticed the dog was affectionate and trusted her right away, which led her to believe the pup had likely been abandoned very recently.
Terrified, the puppy was trying to find comfort any way she could. She’d burrowed down into a bag full of garbage and was using it as a makeshift shelter.

“That’s why I’m assuming she was dumped, because of the way she was trying to find kind of a bed,” Martinez told The Dodo.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, while Martinez was figuring out how to help the dog, she caught her neighbor throwing ice at the pup, trying to shoo her away.
“I was really, really sad,” Martinez said. “And then I was, like, really mad.”
Martinez posted a picture of the puppy on a local social media page, asking if anyone could take her in. Thankfully, someone from Three Little Pitties Rescue saw the photo and knew they had to help. They brought her into their clinic as quickly as possible to get her the medical care she needed.

After getting vaccinated and receiving her deworming and flea prevention treatments, Milly was beginning to feel better. Once she settled in with her foster family, her bubbly personality began to shine through.
“Like any puppy, Milly loves treats, cuddles and toys,” Three Little Pitties Rescue wrote on Facebook. “But what truly sets her apart is her sweet, gentle nature and deep need for affection.”

Now, Milly is looking for a forever family who can take her home and spoil her with the belly rubs and chest scratches she craves. She’s 5 months old and great with dogs, cats and children. She knows the “sit” command, but prefers to only sit on soft, fluffy surfaces.

Everyone at Three Little Pitties Rescue is confident she’d make a wonderful addition to any household.
“Strangers? What are those? To Milly, everybody is a new best buddy, capable of delivering pets and love,” Three Little Pitties Rescue wrote.

After living in a pile of trash bags and getting ice thrown at her, Milly deserves to be pampered for the rest of her life.
“No more sleeping with the trash, only cozy beds and warm hearts from here on out,” Three Little Pitties Rescue wrote.
