The other day, a woman in Los Angeles, California, witnessed a heartbreaking scene. She watched as a weeping family tied their German shepherd-Malinois mix to a tree in an empty parking lot, placed a bag of food beside her and put a muzzle around her snout before walking away.
The family members were visibly sad, but the dog became inconsolable as she watched them walk away.
âWhen you think your heart canât break anymore, and then you see this,â Suzette Hall, founder of Loganâs Legacy 29, wrote on Facebook. âShe didnât know she would never see them again.â
The dog, later named Melody, tried to follow her family, but she remained tethered to the tree, defenseless and defeated. Thatâs when the accidental witness, Bridget Blitsch, stepped in.
âAll I can say is [an] angel was watching over her because Bridget Blitsch just happened to be there at the right time,â Hall wrote. âShe stayed with her and was frantically trying to find a place for her to go.â
Blitsch contacted Hall, who dropped everything and raced to the scene. When she arrived, the experienced rescuer was overcome with emotion.
âShe was crying, Bridget was crying, I was crying,â Hall wrote. âIf Bridget wasnât at the right place at the right time, [Melody] would probably still be sitting there tied to the tree, wondering where they went.â
You can see footage from that moment here:
Luckily, the sweet girl had two new friends who refused to leave her behind. Hall untied Melody from the tree and loaded her into the car after giving her a big, comforting hug.
Hallâs heart broke for Melody and her family. She got some information about the family and learned they had to make an impossible decision.
âThey became homeless, and the shelter they are staying at said itâs either the dog or the shelter they would need to leave because dogs werenât allowed there,â Hall wrote. âThis sweet little baby didnât deserve this.â

While hugging Melody, Hall noticed something draped around the dogâs neck. Blitsch then shared a devastating detail about the pupâs abandonment.
âThe kids had put a necklace on her when they said goodbye,â Hall wrote in a Facebook update. âI put the necklace on my seat after I dropped her at my vet, and I looked over, and it had formed a heart by itself.â

Despite how theyâd left her, Hall knew Melodyâs family truly loved her and didnât want to abandon her. She wished Melody couldâve stayed with her family but promised to find her another loving home as soon as possible.
Itâs been a little over a week since Melodyâs rescue, and the sweet pup is doing better than ever. Sheâs still recovering from the trauma of being left behind, but her rescuers are working hard to heal her emotional wounds.
âSheâs still so sad and so confused,â Hall wrote. âSheâs so sweet and is craving love ⌠any love she can get.â
Melodyâs foster family continues to shower her with love daily, and sheâs striving towards emotional healing. Itâs hard to know the sweet pupâs past, but Hall is confident she has a bright future.
âWe love you, sweetheart,â Hall wrote. âWe wonât break that pinky promise.â
