Blind, ‘Lumpy’ Pup Needed Someone Who Loved His Quirks — Then He Went Viral

Posted on October 17, 2025

“Honestly, we’re not sure what kind of dog he is — possibly a cross between a piglet, a loaf of bread, and your uncle’s old recliner.”

Hondo is not necessarily good on paper. The blind pup, who was surrendered to the Greenville Humane Society this past July, has an adorably vacant expression and a bit of an overbite. But beneath this quirky exterior lies a big heart and a magnetic personality — one that made humane society staff immediately fall in love.

“We absolutely adore our differently abled dogs, and with Hondo being blind, we were so excited to meet him, earn his trust and make him feel as comfortable as possible during his time with us,” Greenville Humane Society marketing manager Emily Zheng told The Dodo. “Not only is he absolutely adorable, but he is the sweetest.”

Rescuers knew the pup might be a hard sell, so they decided to be frank about Hondo. They took to Facebook and wrote a hilariously earnest post that quickly went viral.

“Honestly, we’re not sure what kind of dog he is — possibly a cross between a piglet, a loaf of bread, and your uncle’s old recliner,” the humane society joked in the post. “But listen. Hondo is pure love in a slightly crumpled wrapper.”

Their strategy worked. In no time, adoption applications came rolling in.

“Hondo was with us for two days when we posted him on social media,” Zheng said. “As soon as he was shared, the world fell in love with him the way we did.”

Five families came to meet Hondo, and the pup soon connected with his perfect match.

Now Hondo is comfortable and happy in his permanent home. His mom even started a social media account where fans can follow his progress.

Thanks to the humane society’s quick wit, Hondo is safe with parents who love him just the way he is.

To help other dogs like Hondo, you can make a donation to the Greenville Humane Society.

‘Unicorn’ Dog Left Heartbroken After No One Shows Up To Her Adoption Event

“She was quiet and just watched everybody as they walked by …”

By Alana Francis-Crow

Earlier this year, animal control officers found a 4-year-old dog named Ginger wandering the streets of Eastford, Connecticut. They’d never seen a pup quite like her before — atop her head sat just one ear.

Animal control got in contact with Ginger’s owners, assuming they’d be thrilled to hear their dog was safe. Instead, Ginger’s family said they didn’t want her anymore. They said she “escaped too often” and it was too much to deal with.
