This past October, on a sunny day in New South Wales, Australia, a Good Samaritan was walking down the street when they noticed a white crate sitting by the side of the road. It looked like a piece of trash â abandoned and duct-taped together. So why was it moving?
The passerby approached the crate and peeked inside. There, trapped in the small space, were two little black and brown puppies.
The Good Samaritan brought the dogs home for the night. The next morning, experts at RSPCA New South Wales arrived and brought the pups to Sydney Veterinary Hospital for further care.
Things could’ve turned out much differently had the pups gone unnoticed. Animals in need should never be left to fend for themselves and should always be taken to a local shelter. Luckily, in this case, the puppies ended up where they needed to be.
Day by day, the puppies gained strength. They received all their necessary vaccinations and hungrily snacked on the meals provided. Safe at RSPCA New South Wales, they could finally relax and let their guards down.

Rescuers named the pups Monty and Mindy. Once strong enough, the pair began looking for their new homes. It was only a few weeks before both dogs connected with their families.
These days, Monty and Mindy are living the good life. RSPCA New South Wales staff members are glad that their story ended on a bright note.
â[W]e are so pleased that there was a happy ending for these two beautiful pups,â a representative from RSPCA New South Wales told The Dodo. â[T]hey have found their forever homes, where they can live the life they deserve.â

Shelter Dogs Can’t Stop Hugging When Their Biggest Dream Finally Comes True
âI couldnât resist falling in love âŚâ

Last September, RocĂa H. was scrolling through Instagram when a friendâs Story stopped her in her tracks. The post featured a dog with golden fur and a contagious smile, named Quesito, looking for an adoptive home. RocĂa wasnât looking for a new pet, as she was actively grieving the loss of her soul dog, Whiskey, but something about this pup felt different.
âWhen I saw his face, I felt something so special inside of me, like a gut feeling,â RocĂa told The Dodo. âI fell in love with him in just a second.â
RocĂaâs love for Quesito was instant, but she felt hesitant about filling out an application. After losing Whiskey, she believed she would never adopt a pet again. So, she initially ignored the ad and set her phone down for a bit. But when she caught herself rechecking Quesitoâs post throughout the day, she decided to inquire about him.
âI thought, âWell, Iâm just going to fill this out, but the post has so many likes and shares and comments that I really donât think theyâll choose me,ââ RocĂa said. âThen, just a couple of hours later, Yarha, the head of Canhijos TJ, contacted me âŚâ
Yarha shared that RocĂa had been approved for an interview and explained a bit about Quesitoâs backstory. He was one of 11 puppies, some of whom had already been adopted, and he loved everyone he met. But there was someone he loved more than the rest.
âShe said, âI know this is too much to ask because itâs a really big responsibility to take on, but I have to let you know that Quesito is really close and bonded with one of his siblings, LimĂłn. Ideally, we would love for them to be adopted together, but itâs 100 percent not an obligation or imposition. I just felt like you needed to know,ââ RocĂa said.
Yarha was right; it was a big ask for someone who had just opened up to the idea of adopting a single dog. But after looking at a picture of LimĂłn, RocĂa felt the same heart pull she’d felt with Quesito, and ultimately decided sheâd take them both.
âI couldnât resist falling in love with him as well,â RocĂa said. âSo, I told her [that if] I got approved for adoption, I wanted both, together.â
RocĂa was approved to adopt Quesito and LimĂłn shortly after the call, and she happily took the bonded pair home. Her parents and pets â senior dog, Cual, and cat, Horchata â welcomed the pups with open arms, and they all quickly became a family.
Quesito and LimĂłn were elated to find a home together. While theyâve since developed differing personalities, theyâre still just as affectionate and bonded as ever. No matter what theyâre doing, the two pups can almost always be found arm-in-arm, comforted by each otherâs company.
âLimĂłn has larger legs than Quesito, and we always say that he was given longer arms/legs so he could hug, because he LOVES hugging,â RocĂa said. âMy mom is a therapist, and LimĂłn always gives emotional support to her patients, mostly by hugging.â
Both Quesito and LimĂłn have become proud emotional support dogs for their grandmaâs patients, and theyâve even bonded with Cual and Horchata. Everyone in the house is happy to have them, but RocĂa is especially grateful that the pair arrived when she least expected it.
âQuesito and LimĂłn came into my life at a very unpredictable time, when I wasnât even considering having another dog after my loss, but they showed me that love is possible again,â RocĂa said. âIâm glad I paid attention and listened to my heart.â
