“Despite being failed by people, he still believes in us.”

Meet Beach Bum: a friendly Golden Retriever whose story begins in a difficult place. Abandoned on the streets of Jonesboro, Georgia, Beach Bum had to fend for himself. He scavenged for food in the trash, drank from puddles and slept on hard concrete parking lots. Eventually, he began wandering into local grocery stores, begging for food and affection.

The big-hearted pup wasn’t afraid of strangers. He still trusted them to help, even after they’d turned their backs so many times before.
When rescuers with Hounds In Pounds heard about Beach Bum, they knew they needed to get him off the streets as soon as possible.
“We found him eating a slice of pizza in the median of a busy road as cars sped by just inches away,” a representative from Hounds In Pounds told The Dodo.
The rescuers took Beach Bum straight to their vet. Today, Beach Bum is still at the veterinarian’s office, receiving medical care and eating lots of treats. Everyone who meets Beach Bum can’t believe how affectionate he is, despite the circumstances.
“He’s pretty perfect, super sweet,” the representative said. “Right now he likes eating and belly rubs.”
Once his veterinary care is complete, Beach Bum will move to a foster home and begin looking for his permanent family.
“He does great with dogs and cats so he would love some siblings,” the representative said. “He’s pretty laid back and just goes with the flow. His ideal family would be people who enjoy a slower pace and who love to give snacks out. A lot of snacks!”
Off the street and getting the care he needs, Beach Bum’s future is finally looking bright.

‘Patient Girl’ Smiles At Everyone Who Walks By Her Shelter Kennel
“[She] had this little smirk on her face.”
Liz Standley, a volunteer at Dallas Animal Services, was distributing treats to shelter dogs the other day when she made eye contact with someone who stopped her in her tracks. Stuck inside her kennel, a sweet-looking pup was looking at Standley with her lips curled into a smile.
“She was sitting there so patiently and had this little smirk on her face,” Standley told The Dodo.
